SUZANNE FOSTER. A COKE WITH YOU (VERSIÓN LIBRE DE FRANK O HARA)

faith47

Drinking a coke with you is better than the tension
of having to wait for epiphanies like a flea
on an old bull terrier’s back, distracted
by the noises Ted makes as if one of them might help
him solve the mathematical equation for happiness
on a mid-afternoon astral journey
and without a cent
I like it because we never heard cornets announcing
anything other than a Coca-Cola to refresh
adultery with Or because through the color of your
shirt I imagine the onset of spring
in Alaska And the sun, although invisible, seems kind
at 4 o’clock sharp and we wander through the launch
of a portrait exhibit which doesn’t seem
to include a single face
Also because every sip thrums in a Goldberg
variation and inspires me to stay alert in case
the bubbles orchestrate their own rendition
But, my love, I should head home, even if it’s only
the north wind awaiting me there with no other choice
than to stay by the door
